Home Power Advice Ltd (“Home Power Advice”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is responsible for the personal information described in this privacy policy.

You can contact us at:

Information we collect

Depending on how you use our services, we may collect:

• your name, email address and telephone number;

• information about your home and property;

• electricity and gas use, bills, tariffs and energy costs;

• information about your roof, heating, solar panels, batteries, EVs and other home-energy equipment;

• household and energy-use information you provide through Home Power Check or Home Power Plan;

• quotations, product information and installer details that you choose to provide;

• information about installations and outcomes that you choose to share with us;

• payment and transaction information; and

• technical information generated when you use our website, such as device, browser and website-security information.

Please avoid sending information that is not relevant to the home-energy service you are requesting.

How we use your information

We may use your information to:

• provide Home Power Check results and personalised home-energy guidance;

• prepare a Home Power Plan or other service you have requested;

• assess solar, battery, tariff and other home-energy options;

• respond to enquiries and provide customer support;

• process payments and maintain appropriate transaction records;

• check or compare quotations where you ask us to do so;

• introduce you to an installer or partner where you have requested or agreed to this;

• improve our calculations, services and customer experience;

• prevent fraud, protect our systems and operate our website securely; and

• comply with legal, tax and regulatory obligations.

Our lawful bases

Depending on what we are doing, we rely on one or more lawful bases under UK data-protection law.

Contract: where processing is necessary to provide a paid service you have ordered or to take steps at your request before providing that service.

Legitimate interests: where necessary to operate and improve Home Power Advice, provide requested free services, answer enquiries, maintain appropriate business records and protect our website and systems, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Consent: where you have specifically opted in, including optional marketing or the use of identifiable information for benchmarking.

Legal obligation: where we need to process information to comply with the law.

You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.

Benchmarking and service improvement

If you choose to opt in to benchmarking, we may use information about properties, energy use, quotations and outcomes to improve our calculations and develop useful price and performance benchmarks.

We will remove or reduce direct identifiers where practical. Information that can still be linked back to an individual remains personal data and will continue to be protected under this policy.

We may also use genuinely anonymised and aggregated information for research, statistics, benchmarking and improving our services. Information that has been properly anonymised so that individuals cannot reasonably be identified is no longer personal data.

Marketing

We will only send marketing emails or similar electronic marketing where we have an appropriate lawful basis and comply with applicable electronic-marketing rules.

Where we ask for your consent, the marketing choice is optional and separate from receiving Home Power Advice services.

You can unsubscribe or withdraw your marketing consent at any time.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information where necessary with organisations that help us provide our services, such as:

• website, form, hosting and email-service providers;

• payment processors;

• IT, security and data-processing providers;

• professional advisers and authorities where required by law; and

• installers or home-energy partners where you have requested or agreed to an introduction or where sharing is otherwise necessary to provide a service you requested.

We require service providers handling personal information on our behalf to handle it appropriately and securely.

Completing a Home Power Check does not by itself mean that your contact details will automatically be passed to solar installers.

International data transfers

Some technology providers we use may process information outside the United Kingdom.

Where personal information is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure that an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism and safeguards are used where required by UK data-protection law.

Payments

Card payments are processed using our payment-service provider. We do not normally receive or store your complete card details ourselves.

We may retain transaction information that we need for accounting, customer-service, fraud-prevention and legal purposes.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including providing our services, resolving queries, improving our service, maintaining appropriate business records and meeting legal, accounting and tax obligations.

The exact period may vary according to the type of information and why we hold it.

Marketing information is retained until you unsubscribe, withdraw consent or it is no longer appropriate to retain it.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.

However, no website, electronic storage system or transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to:

• ask for a copy of personal information we hold about you;

• ask us to correct inaccurate information;

• ask us to erase information;

• ask us to restrict how information is used;

• object to certain processing;

• receive certain information in a portable format; and

• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise your rights, contact enquiries@homepoweradvice.co.uk.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we use your personal information.

Cookies and website technology

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the website to operate.

If we use non-essential analytics, advertising or similar technologies that require consent, we will provide an appropriate choice before using them where required.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy when our services, suppliers or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this page.
